21 oz. can apple pie filling
2 t. cinnamon
3 c. flour
1 c. sugar
1 T. baking powder
1 t. salt
1 1/2 c. milk
1/2 c. butter, softened
3 eggs
TOPPING
1/4 c. packed brown sugar
1/4 c. chopped walnuts
2 T. butter, melted
GLAZE
3/4 c. powdered sugar
1 T. butter, melted
3/4 t. vanilla
2 1/2 t. hot water
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9x13 pan.
Mix pie filling and cinnamon; set aside.
Beat flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, milk, butter, and eggs in mixing bowl on low speed for 30 seconds. Increase speed to medium and beat for 2 minutes. Pour half of the batter into greased pan. Spoon half of the pie filling over the batter. Repeat layers.
Combine brown sugar and nuts, then sprinkle over cake. Drizzle with 2 tablespoons melted butter.
Bake for 45-55 minutes. Remove from oven and cool for 20 minutes.
While cake is cooling, whisk powdered sugar, 1 tablespoon melted butter, vanilla, and hot water until smooth. Drizzle over cake.
Notes: I chop the apples in the pie filling in order to spread them across more of the batter's surface. I also split the cinnamon, half going with the apple pie filling and the other half in the batter.
